Keeping A Promise To Myself

11142016_marinasunriseLast night before I went to bed, I said, “I want to be up by 6am so I can take sunrise photos.” At 5:58am this morning, I woke gently, without an alarm.

I thought, “Whoa, that’s cool, but maybe I’ll sleep for five more minutes.”

A voice inside said, “You asked for this. Don’t ask and then not act, or future requests may not be taken seriously.”

So I got up, walked the dogs, and was out the door with camera in hand at 6:35am.

It was such a beautiful morning, with heavy dew that looked like diamonds on the grass. A pod of dolphins was getting warmed up for the day with what appeared to be morning exercises in a watery nook off the ship channel.

A few minutes after taking this photo, a thick fog rolled in, making it hard to see anything 10 feet in front of me! Had I not honored my promise to wake up, I would have slept right through this opportunity!

Words are powerful, even when they’re only spoken to one’s self.

Have a wonderful day, my friends, and I wish you abundant blessings in whatever is on your schedule today.

Rack ‘Em Up! A Night Out With One Of My BFFs

08252016_poolhallwithcherylc

Last night was “Girls Night Out” with my BFF Cheryl, woot woot!

We pretty much alternate who wins the game, and the other half of the fun is picking our favorite 70s, 80s and 90s songs at the jukebox so we have happy music while we play.

Lots of laughter, sharing old memories, making of new memories… it’s the best!

It’s simple moments like these that remind how incredibly blessed I am to have a close circle of inspirational, fun, talented, and fully trusted “soul sisters” in my life.

Even if we’re not always close by, we’re always close at heart.

The Bonus Of A Goal Buddy

228_TrainTracksSideViewPPTDO YOU HAVE A GOAL BUDDY?

Time may give us the illusion that it is infinite, but it’s not. One day, each of us will reach the end of the line in this journey called Life.

It’s quiet moments on back country roads like this that make me ponder:
• How am I spending each precious minute of my day?
• Am I wisely investing my time and energy towards achieving that which is important to me?
• What activities bring me the most joy in accordance with my Major Goals and Life’s Purpose?

There is something powerful about writing down a goal, but I believe there is added empowerment in speaking that goal out loud to a trusted friend. There is accountability. There is encouragement. There is the gentle nudge on those days when the goal seems impossible.

For more than 10 years, I’ve had a Goal Buddy – my best friend, Suzan.

This unique aspect of our friendship allows us to motivate and inspire each other in our individual journeys, to take small steps on a daily or weekly basis towards bigger goals, and to celebrate the victories, both big and small.

On occasion, I’m faced with a challenge where a goal no longer brings joy to my life, or it no longer serves a purpose towards my Major Goals or Life Purpose. At those times, like the song says, I have to be strong enough to ♫ let it go ♫.

Tomorrow morning, Suzan and I will have an early morning conference call to review our individual 2nd Quarter accomplishments, and stake a claim in what each of us wants to achieve in the 3rd Quarter of 2016. These conversations light a fire in my soul that make me appreciate every minute in the day.

I’ll note that when we first started these Goal Buddy Reviews, it was on a weekly basis. Over the years, however, we’ve hit a comfortable stride with our progress so that we only do Goal Reviews at the end of every quarter, and at the beginning of each New Year.

My Suggestion: Life is short. Make it count. No regrets. Figure out what’s important to you, grab a trusted Goal Buddy to share your vision, then create a road map to keep you on track!

Wishing you abundant blessings,
AmyO.

A Dragonfly’s Message

SONY DSC“The dragonfly spirit animal invites people to keep a light, positive outlook no matter what.”
~Elena Harris, SpiritAnimal.info Editor

Change is sometimes uncomfortable, yet it is needed for growth.

There has been significant change and challenge in my own life these past two weeks – losing a beloved 21-year-old kitty, unexpected repairs to the truck and RV, and severing ties with a non-profit that was dear to my heart.

As I spend time outside when it’s cool to mediate near the creek behind my RV, colorful dragonflies dance in flight around me, easing my heart. They land on nearby branches to observe me, and I observe them right back.

In the world of symbolism, which we as writers carefully and subtly insert into stories, the dragonfly represents the following:

• Change
• Adaptability
• Transformation
• Joy, lightness of being
• Seeing clearly through illusions and deceits
• An invitation to dive deeper into your feelings

It’s interesting to note that in the midst of chaos and change, I didn’t notice these beautiful, delicate creatures. Now, I see them everywhere!

Goodbye for now, Mustang Island.

♫ TIME TO SAY GOODBYE ♫

After an amazing seven months at various locations here on gorgeous Mustang Island, it’s time to hitch up the RV and move on down the road.

One of my personal goals for 2016 is to haul the RV outside of the Texas state line, so this is a step in the right direction!

While I’m sad to leave Port Aransas, I’m equally excited about the new adventures yet to come…

Here are a few final photos from Mustang Island, 2016… See ya down the road!

Boat Ride to St. Jo’s Island

01242016_StJo03Yesterday, my friend Michele (another solo lady RVer) and I visited St. Jo’s Island, which is right across the channel from Port Aransas on Mustang Island, Texas.

Since you can only get to the little island by boat, there is very little traffic, and because of that, the beach has an abundance of shells!

It was a perfect day weather-wise, too; sunny and warm, compared the rest of the country dealing with snow, blizzards and freezing temperatures.

This is one of the reasons I love the RV Life: If I don’t like the weather, or neighbors, or city… I simply hitch up and go somewhere else!

In all the years I visited Port Aransas, I’ve never ventured across to St. Jo’s. It was worth it!

But a word of warning, there are no bathrooms! You can BYOTP (Toilet Paper), or if you’re like me, you just don’t drink anything earlier in the day and hope you make it back across the boat before you have to go!

Life is a journey. Enjoy every minute of it.

I take great care to match the photo with an inspirational quote; it’s almost therapeutic. Plus, it’s a fun way to kick start the week on a positive note!

Sea Turtle Release!

It was a packed beach on Mustang Island for the sea turtle release this morning!

Staff and volunteers from the Animal Rehabilitation Keep (ARK) at UT Marine Science Institute released 6-9 large rehabilitated adult sea turtles, and three sea turtle hatchlings.

One turtle (pictured) apparently had a chunk bit out of him from a shark, but luckily he got away.

Members from the local Coast Guard were also on-hand to assist in the release.

It was a wonderful opportunity to bring awareness to the wonderful work the ARK does to rehabilitate injured and vulnerable marine life, and then return it to its home in the wild as soon as the animal is healed/recovered.

Many thanks to the staff and volunteers who coordinated this event, and to those who cared for the sea turtles until they could be returned home.

Swim free!

Happy Halloween!

My canine model & traveling buddy Sofie-Darla was a good sport during our “photo shoot” this morning.

She was paid handsomely in treats for her time and effort.

Behind the scenes: Her sticking her tongue out at me was a pretty good indication as to how she really felt about the Costume Photos idea!

Happy Halloween from me, Sofie-Darla, & the Kitty Crew!
